Bengaluru (India), 6‘h March, 2018: City based social activist couple Mrs. Amrita Tata and Mr. Vijay Tata today made a humble plea to the judiciary to deliver justice by expediating the process of rape trials in India / Karnataka. In order to ensure social and gender equality, justice has to be delivered without delays which puts the victim to societal turmoil and mental trauma.
Mr. Vijay Tata announced to hold a silent protest in the city on 8'” March on Women’s Day to urge Fast track justice for women. The silent march will start from Mysore bank circle and reach Freedom Park where he will address the gathering.

90 percent rapes in India go unreported. Of the reported, only 30 percent go to trial, of them only 1/3rd go to jail. According to statistics, 34,651 cases of rape were reported in india last year, but this is just the tip of the iceberg since 90 percent cases went unreported. Our society is in a state of disarray when it comes to legal disputes and dispensing of justice. There are millions of cases pending in our courts which continue to struggle due to lack of manpower, infrastructure and reform in our legal and judicial framework. This becomes even more imperative when it comes to atrocities like rape where the victim has had to endure physical and mental agony all through the duration of the trial, which sometimes takes years.

Addressing the media, Mr. Vijay Tata, Founder of New India Charitable Trust said, ”Speedy trial is the essence of criminal justice. it is an integral part of the fundamental right to life and liberty. Justice delayed is justice denied. The victims go through a harrowing experience while seeking justice. We often hear about such justice being delivered when it becomes redundant to the grieving. This systemic lethargy must end for people’s faith in the law of the land to prevail. A time has come where we need to come together to raise a concern about this serious lacuna in our society. ”

Mr. Vijay Tata has also started Stop rape initiative an online petition against rape where they will reach out to every Honourable Judge of India with a plea to take harsh steps against rapists.
The couple have been sheltering 40 kids for six years and the dream got bigger to give back to society, which gave birth to New India. Recently the couple has also pledged 50 acres of land worth ‘100 crores in Attibele Anekal Road to the trust towards construction of a 150 bedded super-specialty cancer care hospital for the underprivileged cancer patients from across India who will be treated free of charge.
